Technical Soil Services in Washington

Soil scientists involved in technical soil services help users understand soil surveys, apply soil information for specific needs, gather site specific soil data, and integrate soil survey information and data with other resource data and technology.

Technical soil services identifies and addresses soil survey information needs and opportunities within the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), the National Cooperative Soil Survey (NCSS) partnership, and other scientific disciplines within and beyond local, state, regional, and national arenas. The process also includes obtaining feedback to identify and clarify additional needs for soil survey information.

Web Soil Survey  NEW
The Web Soil Survey site allows online viewing of soil survey maps and reports. It is an alternative method for obtaining soil survey information on a national scale. 

Soil Data Mart
The USDA-NRCS Soil Data Mart website has been created to meet provisions in the 2002 Farm Bill. It provides access to soil information and allows you to:
• Determine where soil tabular and spatial data is available.
• Download data for one soil survey area at a time.
• Download a template Microsoft Access® database for working with downloaded data.
• Generate a variety of reports for one soil survey area at a time.
• Find out who to contact for information about soil data for a particular state.
• "Subscribe" or "unsubscribe" to a soil survey area. A person who is subscribed will automatically be notified whenever data for that soil survey area is updated. (You must register and login before doing this.)
• It also provides an entry point to allow its pages to be integrated easily into other web sites.

Hydric Soils
The hydric soils for a particular soil survey area can be obtained by generating a Hydric Soil report at the Soil Data Mart. Be sure to include minor components in your query.
