Silver Lake Watershed Project
Silver Lake Dam, a PL-566 structure located in southwest Washington, failed
in May 1999. The 348 feet long concrete drop spillway structure had been
undermined by piping of the foundation soils creating a void which extended
approximately 125 feet along the long axis of the structure and 10 feet below
the structure floor. The Multi-State Design Team (MSDT) conducted an engineering
investigation of the dam failure and provided technical assistance for design of
the repair work, which was completed in October of 1999 at a cost of $880,000.
Items of work included underwater concrete placement, compaction and slurry
grouting, sheet pile installation, epoxy corrosion protection, earthwork and
rock riprap placement.
