French Creek Pump Plant

Fish Ladder Pump Modification

The French Creek Pump Plant is located one mile south of Snohomish, Washington. It was designed and built by the NRCS in the early 1990s in order to pump water from the French Slough Drainage Project into the Snohomish River. Following installation of the structure, the need to modify the fish ladder portion of the structure was recognized. The configuration of the pump did not protect fish from the pump impeller.

In 2000, the Multi-State Design Team (MSDT) designed a fish ladder pump modification. The pump and intake were moved to a location where fish entry is prevented. The main design concerns included structural support for the pump, installation of additional steel delivery pipelines, and relocation of electrical components. Construction of the modification is anticipated for 2003.
