Delta Clearwater River Watershed Project

The Delta Clearwater Watershed is a PL-566 project near Delta Junction, Alaska that will reduce scour erosion of cropland and sedimentation in critical salmon spawning and rearing reaches of the Clearwater River. The Clearwater River produces approximately 25 percent of the Coho salmon and is the only ice free spawning and rearing area for the Yukon River Basin. This project will recharge groundwater from a 107 square mile drainage area of the Clearwater River. The project is designed for installation in three major phases. Construction began in 1999 and the project will require several years to complete. The planning estimate is $6,000,000. The field work and design are on going activities by the Multi-State Design Team.
