Rock Watershed
This section is for reference only. The sign-up period for this watershed has closed.

The Rock watershed comprises 611,125 acres located over four counties in Eastern Washington; Adams, Lincoln, Spokane and Whitman. The watershed is part of the western foothills of the Northern Rocky Mountains.  The area is characterized by a non-forested, loess-covered area with a minimum annual precipitation of 15 inches.  The highly productive soil is high in organic matter and clay content.

This area is dominated by extensive farming operations. There are approximately 612 farms on 423,000 acres of cropland in the watershed involved in the production of small grains, peas, lentils, and hay.

Water erosion is the major management issue with perennial streams originating from the mountains to the east.  Smaller, intermittent streams are found in the loess bottoms which are mostly plowed and tiled.
