GPS Satellite |
NRCS Washington has two new survey-grade GPS system units to supplement
the three that we already have. The Puget Sound and North Central Teams
received the new units as well as training from the vendor, on January 22,
2009.
NRCS employees received hands on training on the setup and use of the
powerful new tools that will increase the speed and accuracy of engineering
surveys used in the planning and design of conservation practices throughout
the state.
The units have the lightest cable-free RTK, GNSS system on the market, and
deliver complete cable-free operation to provide maximum flexibility with
fewer components.
The unit includes Windows CE and wireless technologies. This facilitates
direct contact to the office via the Internet to upload/download data to
enhance survey productivity. With its integrated CF-card, data can be
seamlessly exchanged with Leica System 1200 instruments to provide full
X-Function compatibility. With this technology, there is no requirement for
a horizontal line of site, making it especially useful on large projects
with open sky views.
The end result is raw survey data that can be easily processed and given the
projection needed for your project. Point file data can then be imported
into AutoCAD Civil 3D for contour development or simply used as reference
point information.
If you have a large survey project that would benefit from this technology,
contact Wes Durheim at 509-323-2959 to put you in touch with the local
system operator.
